One week down!

A week ago I decided to get back in shape and start eating healthier. I promised you guys I would update you weekly on my progress so here goes!

The Challenges.

To be honest, as mentioned in the first post, I have been extremely lazy when it comes to keeping fit and it was a challenge to get back into the habit of setting time aside to work out. BUT, I did manage to get work outs in with my “fitness buddy.”

Diet. Just the whole idea of having to change my diet was a challenge.

So, what’s new?

I used the small “workout” room (equipped with a few weights and a bench) my fitness buddy has to do some of the workouts.

I didn’t realize how out of shape I really was until the first workout I did from POPSUGAR fitness. I chose the workout video knowing full well that it would have been a breeze 2-3 years ago. I don’t know what it is with me, but when I feel challenged, it just gets me pumped up to prove to myself that I CAN and WILL do it. 😀

I am Filipina. Allow me to stereotype myself here, that means I usually eat rice with every meal. Yes, even breakfast, and having to let the rice go was a big freakin’ deal lol. I substituted quinoa for rice, and when I do have rice, I usually just opt for brown rice.

I also went on a mainly vegetarian diet. That, in and of itself, is something that just doesn’t happen in our food culture and one of my close friends actually asked what I eat when I mentioned it haha. I only had 5 meals with meat this whole week! Yay!

What’s Next?

I am definitely going to up the ante with the workouts. I’m aiming to wake up 45 minutes to 1 hour earlier in the morning so I can do my workouts before I have to get to work so I don’t have to take the time out after work and just focus on other things I have to get done.

I’ll continue with the vegetarian meals with quinoa or brown rice. I definitely do not consider myself a vegetarian, but since I have been feeling less sluggish after eating a vegetarian meal, I might look into that. Maybe I can do a whole week this coming week?

So, that’s my week 1 update!
